Welcoming in the New Year in Costa Rica

Costa Rica surfingHaving never been to Costa Rica and especially at New Years we wanted to party with the locals!

From the exquisite Villa La Esquina overlooking Langosta beach, we woke each morning to exotic birds, squirrels and monkeys spotted through the palm trees.

Our first day in the waves, we met Francisco and organized surfing lessons right in the water. The kids were up and surfing in minutes having the time of their lives.

Back at La Esquina we met a charming, local family from San Jose who invited us to a wonderful New Year’s Eve meal in their apartment. Then off to Tamarindo Beach to party under the stars. Amidst a mile long stretch of fireworks and bonfires we counted down the New Year, surrounded by Chinese lanterns  floating into the sky.

After lunch it was a rustic ramble to the Spa on horseback to unwind in the stone steam room before covering ourselves in soothing, volcanic mud. A quick exfoliation and a brusque, shower in the lush foliage, and it was time to luxuriate in the hot spring pools. When Miguel, our ever attentive tour guide signaled to leave, we readily gave up our seats to another family for another 30 minutes of paradise.

Henry, our Onsite Manager from Terra Nova Costa Rica and his tour guides were so attentive and helpful, from checking in on us, to ensuring our day trips were amazing. On our way to and from the airport we even stopped by  the roadside for fresh coconut milk and orange juice!

WiFi was great in the Villa, but when out and about it was nice to have the Wireless Traveler Pocket WiFi, just to check in on business from time to time. And of course the kids had to post their amazing videos to Instagram from the airport, using the secure pocket WiFi we all shared.
