Is Brexit Affecting Tourism to the UK?

London, England, Big Ben

When the United Kingdom voted to leave the European Union, the British pound plummeted to its lowest level in more than three decades.  While there are plenty of unanswered questions following the Brexit decision, one thing is true. It is cheaper for Americans to visit the UK.

Britain has always been a popular destination spot for U.S. tourists and now it is much cheaper to visit. All of Britain is basically on sale. Flights, hotels, food, and tours are all less expensive – at least for the near future.

More Tourism Value for Your Money

While the UK has never been known as a cheap vacation destination, the devalued pound offers tourists hope of being able to enjoy more value for their money than they have in the past. If you fly to London for a Christmas shopping spree, you are sure to get more for your dollar.

The dollar to pound rate is also important because oil and airlines are priced in dollars. Low oil prices and cheaper airfares make the UK an affordable destination. Airfares, on average, are up to twenty percent cheaper than they have been in previous years.

Combine this with the strong dollar and it is easy to see why England remains a favorite vacation spot for U.S. travelers. In fact, London ranked number two for top summer destinations, according to AAA.

Only time will tell if Brexit does any long-term harm to the UK and its image as a premier travel destination. Travel analysts predict that lower travel costs will remain through the end of the year; however, they expect increases in 2017.

So, if Britain is on your travel wish list, now might be the perfect time to go.
